About Derek Young
Expert Event Planning
For over 20 years Derek has been self-employed in the arts and entertainment sector working with organizations such as Little Ray's Nature Centre, Super Dogs, Knights of Valour, National Reading Campaign, Northern Screams Attractions, Canadian Wrestling's Elite and various national touring acts. He is currently the booking agent for Dr. Von Houligan's Family Extravaganza touring variety show. Locally, he promotes comedy nights and variety shows working with renowned entertainment professionals like Derek Seguin, Gilson Lubin, Mike Wilmont and Ken Margoe.
Derek graduated from Cambrian College with a diploma in business administration. Upon graduation he was employed in the non-profit sector working for organizations such as The Lung Association, United Way, Music and Film in Motion, Alzheimer Society, and Northern Ontario Railroad Museum and Heritage Centre. He also works with IATSE Local 634 in the film and live event industry.
In 2011, he received the Male Professional of the Year by the Young Professionals Association, Queen's Diamond Jubilee Plaque of Honour from the Sudbury Multi-Cultural Folks Arts Association in 2012, and a 40 Under Forty Award in 2015 for his contributions to the community which include the Sudbury Arts Council, Downtown Sudbury BIA, Royal Canadian Legion, Lockerby Highlanders Pipe Band, Sudbury Indie Cinema, and Kinsmen Club of Sudbury.
